Shortly after returning from Lake Tahoe, Gary and I decided that it would be really nice to get away just the two of us before school started for the kids, and the chaos begun! So we looked and knew we did not want to travel far decided on San Diego! So we booked our room, found a sitter for the kids, and off we were and not looking back! Gary and I have never done this just the two of us thing for several nights since we have had kids, so we were long overdue! When we got down to San Diego, we checked in our room, and off we went, not waisting anytime. We went and walked around and just got familiar with where we were staying. Saw some cool things and snapped some shots.
After walking, shopping a bit, we worked up an hunger, so we went to a local Mexican place called Pokeys! We heard from people there and at home that this was a good place, not the best looking on the outside(a hole in the wall kinda place) but let me tell you, I was not disappointed, bomb food!
After eating, we hit up the night life of San Diego, and explored on foot. We must have walked at least 5 miles all over before we called it a night and went back to our room.
The next morning we got up and waisted no time in our room. We got ready and headed of to the beach.
Gary does not look to happy here, but we were, we were both really hungry, and saving our appetite for our next journey that of course has to do with food... Hodads
This place has been talked about, and also was on The Food Network, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! Guy had been here and did a spotlight on this, so we just had too! Let me tell you, seriously yummy! You can see in the picture above, the line already forming, and it had just opened. Once we got in sat down and had a chance to look over the menu, I swear we were already full just looking, so many good choices, but all in all I had to go with what Guy ate, The Pastrami burger!
Gary got a cheeseburger, onion rings, and f course a chocolate malt! His eyes were bigger then his bite, cause he was full not even half done.
A photo of the menu just because!
After eating we went back to the beach for a bit, and then headed off to the USS MIDWAY!
Let me just tell you, when we got there we thought we would not be on here for more then 4 hours, but we were way wrong. This was so neat, and we both learned so much. We got to talk to some guys who actually flew some of these planes, and we talked to some men who dropped bombs from some planes, and were in wars and lived to tell us stories! It was probably my favorite thing we did on our trip!
It was a bit scary when you looked down at the water and realized how far up you were! But amazing at the same time.
Gary's favorite copter!
The beautiful view, and Coronado Island!
We ended up staying here for the most part of the rest of that day, and did not even try to stay here! Would love to take the kids here sometime! Think they would love it.
We haded back to our room, changed, went out for dinner, and then went to a ball game!
we went just to say that we have been to all 3 baseball stadiums in California! It was pretty cool, but the game was kind of boring, so we too off, and went to the Lamp District! We walked around some more, and went into a cute cupcake shop, shared a really really good cupcake, and then got some yummy dessert! Walking back to our call, w saw this billboard, and they were setting it up as we were walking by, not a fan of what it was, but it was cool, because it was made using bottle caps, and corks! Very talented people doing it!
We ended up saying out pretty late that night. We knew our trip was coming to an end, so we called it a night, so we could be prepared to go back to reality! We woke up the next morning, checked out, but before we went home we hit up the mall, shopped a little, had a bite to eat, and were off to get the kiddos. We had a really nice time, and can't wait until next time!
